The town of Meissen is internationally famous for the production of Meissen porcelain, the first European porcelain to be manufactured since 1708. The old town is also picturesque, where you should definitely stop off at the Vincenz Richter wine restaurant, located in a clothmaker's house dating back to 1523, on the market square. And in the many antique shops, many a tourist has found a really good piece of Meissen porcelain at a favourable price.
